Appointment of HPMA’s New Executive Director

Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) has a vision to ‘Improve health through people’, which was embedded into HPMA’s constitution when it became a charity in 2016.
HPMA believes that every health and care organisation should excel in the way that they manage their people. Great people management leads to improved health outcomes and quality of care, resulting in a healthier and more cared for nation.
To support this vision, HPMA is delighted to announce that Nicky Ingham has been appointed as HPMA’s Executive Director. Nicky will start with immediate effect and this marks the beginning of the next phase of growth for HPMA. 
Nicky is a passionate ambassador for the HR, workforce and people profession with over 24 years within the NHS and in HR/Workforce roles.   Her professional focus has always centred on how to ensure patients receive the best possible experience and safe, high-quality care.  Her passion is developing others through her own behaviour as a key role model for the people profession across the NHS and as a key ambassador for the profession locally, regionally and nationally.  Her last role in the NHS was as Executive Director of Workforce and OD at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS FT.
Nicky was awarded HPMA HR Director of the Year in 2010 following a nomination by the chair of Trade Union staff side.  Nicky has also been involved in the development of the national Professional Development Strategy for the workforce profession in the NHS in partnership with NHS Employers and NHS England of which HPMA was a key stakeholder.  
Damian McAlister, HPMA’s Interim President said “This is a very important role for the HPMA and one which we believe will be pivotal in helping us fulfil our ambitions as outlined in our new vision and strategy, launched last year.  Nicky has proven her commitment to the profession and to the health and care sector and we are excited about what she will bring to this new role.”
Nicky Ingham said “I am excited about the potential HPMA has to make a very significant difference to our profession and its vital role in promoting excellence in HR and people management.  All health and care organisations, including all parts of the NHS, employ people that are vital to the quality and safety of the care we all deliver to our nation.  How we manage and care for these same people is therefore key to our success.”

Supporting our people to deliver the best possible health and care.
HPMA has a history of over 40 years, was incorporated as a charity in 2016 at which time a new vision and strategy was launched.  Since then HPMA has increased its national events programme from 3 to 10 events, including the annual Awards, the annual conference, a joint conference with Universities HR association, a members’ event and a roadshow of HPMA events. 
In addition the 13 branches covering the four UK countries have been putting on hundreds of local events to support the development of our HR professionals and promoting best practice in HR and people management.
