The Royal Free London has become one of only four high-performing NHS foundation trusts to be accredited by NHS Improvement to lead a group of NHS hospitals.

We have recently redesigned our operating model to create a ‘group’ of hospitals, connected by a single board and set of standards. Individual trusts/hospitals will be able to join the group, under a range of ‘membership options’, from full membership (where the member is fully owned) to buddying.

 
The group centre will provide support services at scale and drive standardisation of clinical and non-clinical processes to reduce unwarranted variation in health, care, outcomes and cost.
The Royal Free London believes its group model will provide significant benefits to patients by reducing variation in clinical services and lowering our costs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the well-established Employee Relations Service for an outstanding HR professional to join the workforce team as Head of Employee Relations.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Business Partnering and Strategy, you will manage the Employee Relations Team that delivers consistently high standards of advice and support to the managers and staff across the Trust.

The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Heads of Workforce and HR Business Partnering team to ensure delivery of a professional and high quality HR service.

The post will be based with the Employee Relations team at the Enfield Civic Centre site but will operate across all Trust sites including the Royal Free Hampstead and Barnet Hospital.

The post holder will be required to lead the employee relations service, building on the reputation of the Trust as an employer of choice through adherence to best practice principles. They will provide assurance on the quality of the services provided through the production of, and monitoring of, key performance indicators, reporting and auditing.

As a senior member of the HR team the post holder will support the development and delivery of the Trust's Workforce Strategy and policies to ensure that HR services are fully integrated with the needs of the Trust.

The successful candidate will be CIPD qualified, have excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively lead and manage a team. They should have extensive experience of dealing with all aspects of employee relations so as to provide expert advice to both the team and the Trust as necessary. They should also have a good understanding of Medical and non-Medical ER issues and NHS Terms and Conditions of service. The successful applicant will be joining the Trust at an exciting and challenging time.

The post holder will work proactively with the Divisional Directors, Divisional Nurse and Medical Directors as well as other senior stakeholders to support the forward planning, modernisation, engagement and performance of the workforce, embedding good HR practice and raising management capability within the division. Working closely with the Deputy Director of HR and the senior HR team the post holder will develop HR initiatives that create and add value to the business and performance of the Trust.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Employee Relations and Workforce Governance to support the trust's efforts to maintain and develop its standing as a high quality employer able to effectively manage and develop its staff in the challenging NHS environment.

Key responsibilities include leading the employment relations function ensuring all managers in the trust are supported to deliver high quality people management, policy development, working in partnership with unions, risk management and assurance, developing the trust's approach to equality and diversity specifically in relation to its workforce as well as contributing to the organisational development/employee engagement agenda.
