After 22 years service as an officer in the Royal Air Force Logistics Branch he took up a senior role in 1989 in the Department of Health in London overseeing the introduction of the NHS National Supply Coding Systems which was also being introduced into other Government Departments such as the Cabinet Office. In 1993, he moved to the Headquarters of NHS Supplies in Harrogate to development communication and IT systems during the introduction and formation of NHS Trusts.
In 1996, he joined the British Heart Foundation's Regional Director for the North of England managing the Foundation's educational, equipment provision and fundraising activities. In 2008, he joined the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as its Senior Fundraiser for North Yorkshire and finally retired in October 2015.
In January 2016 he became a Pubic Governor for Harrogate and the Villages at Harrogate District Foundation Trust.
