Julie Smith joined Leicester’s Hospitals as Chief Nurse in August 2015.
Julie has worked in the NHS for over 25 years, having trained as a nurse in Belfast. Her career path then saw her working in a variety of clinical roles from staff nurse through to matron before moving into general management.
Julie's background spans large, multi-site district general hospitals, a large teaching hospital as well as a number of regional and national roles, including the Modernisation Agency and the Department of Health focusing on quality improvement and redesigning the delivery of clinical services.
In her previous role as Director of Nursing and Quality at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2011-2015), she played a significant role in leading the Trust to it's CQC inspection rating 'Good', and national recognition for a number of quality and safety standards, including RCM - Maternity Service of the Year (2015).
Julie’s passion is the delivery of high quality care resulting in good patient experience and she has a particular interest in vulnerable groups.
