ASPIRE Business Partner Programme 2021-22 launched!

We are pleased to let you know that the application process for this year’s ASPIRE Business Partner programme is now open until 10th May 2021

These are exceptional times for HR and OD professionals in the NHS and we know many practitioners have stepped up to the challenges and are also thinking of further developing their careers in the NHS. We are therefore taking our ASPIRE BP programme online over the next few months. Please see the information below and attached.

We are particularly keen to receive applications from senior ethnic minority HR and OD colleagues as part of our proactive drive to create a more diverse and inclusive profession.

The HPMA London Academy aspirant development programmes have an established track record of developing future HR and OD leaders and we are pleased to confirm that, over the last five years, 26 of our current Deputy, Assistant and Associate Workforce Directors have participated in our aspirant leadership programmes.

ASPIRE Business Partner Programme

Are you currently in a band 6,  7 or 8 role and would like to move into an HR or OD Business Partner role in the next 12 months?

Applications should be submitted by 5 pm on 10th May 2021. The application process is quite detailed so do leave plenty of time to put this together. It includes the following components:

  • CV
  • Short (5 min) video presentation
  • Competency self-assessment
  • Idea for a stretch business project
  • Supporting statement from your sponsor
  • Equalities monitoring form


All applications will be assessed and calibrated by panels of Deputy Directors of Workforce working with the HPMA London team.

 Eligibility for the Programme

The programme is for HR and OD Professionals who have been identified as having the potential and the ambition to move into a Business Partner role in the next 12 months.

This programme is not open to existing Business Partners however it is open to Associate Business Partners.

We anticipate that applicants will currently be in a band 6, 7 or 8 role. Applicants will be required to have the support of their line manager or current Director to act as sponsor and provide a statement of support for the applicant.


The programme costs £1500, to be paid by the sponsoring organisation. Please include invoicing instructions on the application form.
