- How the NHS can support staff in times of crisis and develop a resilient workforce, Coppelia Rose, Global SAP Healthcare and life sciences leader, DXC Technology
It is agreed that, now almost 2 years into the pandemic, the NHS & the healthcare workforce has been exposed to higher levels of stress than ever before. Supporting wellbeing is rising to the top of the priority list, but it can be challenging. What help is there for the NHS & healthcare organisations to better support their staff through difficult times & build resilience? We will discuss some of the ways these challenges can be reduced & the benefits to the healthcare workforce.
Stream: Developing our people & employee experience (stream sponsor CMP):
- #DoingOurBit, Julie Davis, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at the Clinical Research Network West Midlands & 2021 HPMA Awards winner

- Working kinder and smarter, not harder: Dr Hesham Abdalla, Head of Integrated Quality Improvement, Oxford University Hospitals; Co-founder, Hexitime and John Lodge, Hexitime Co-founder and NHS Head of Quality Improvement (London)
We are entering into what is anticipated to be the toughest ever winter for the NHS. The system is already at capacity with queues of ambulances waiting to offload patients as one of the most visual examples of this. Moreover, staff are already exhausted and demoralised and capacity is anticipated to dwindle further with sickness and staff leaving the profession. Can we increase the capacity of staff by giving them the resources they need and can we release their discretionary effort? Timebanking is an innovative and elegant solution to both of these.
Hexitime is the first professionals’ timebank that connects colleagues across health and social care and facilitates the matching of supply and demand on a peer to peer basis. On Hexitime, staff ask and offer help based on their own perceived deficits and individual assets and thereby simply and quickly match supply and demand. This is elegant and scalable and because of the time credit system, it takes money off the table and allows resources and information to flow in new and innovative ways. Secondly, as skill exchanges on Hexitime are not limited by the grade of the individual providing it, equity is embedded. Staff can then escape role shaped boxes, discovering and growing their hidden skills and talents. Finally, by connecting up your organisation and rewarding people helping people, moves mindsets from competition to collaboration.
Come to this experiential session on…. to learn more and learn how you, your team and your organisation can participate and benefit.

Assessing the current levels of Psychological Safety within an intact team, can help team members see the need for interpersonal ‘soft’ skills, and support their leaders and team members to develop. Those who have read Professor Amy Edmondson’s book “The Fearless Organization” will know that psychological safety is required for team high-performance. Psychological safety is defined as “a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes.” At CMP, it’s always been our ambition to create workplaces where people can really be authentic, bringing their ‘whole self’ to work, without the fear of conflict or reprisal. To us, this is Psychological Safety, and this is the prime reason for our Partnership with the Fearless Organization. This session will be looking at this in more depth, with a Q&A
